Home " Blog " Bike Maintenance " Cleaning your bike, how do you do it?
A good maintained bicycle ensures that the bicycle last longer. That's what you want too, right? This is why it is important to clean your bike regularly. In this blog we will give you tips on how to clean your bike in order to make it last longer.

How can I clean my bicycle?

When your bike is dirty because of the rain or because of frequent use, it is time to clean it. When cleaning your bike, you need soapy water with washing-up liquid, a sponge and an old toothbrush. First clean all the parts with the sponge. You can then clean the spots that are harder to reach with an old toothbrush. Finally, rinse the bike with the garden hose. Never clean your bike with a high-pressure hose. Water gets into the parts you do not want. Do not use hot water either. This can cause parts to discolour. Finally, allow the bike to dry out before you take part in traffic again.

Which cleaning product for your bike?

For effective cleaning of your bike, its rims and spokes, it is best to make a soapy water bath with a little washing-up liquid/turf. Washing up liquid and a sponge will remove most of the dirt. So there is no need to buy expensive cleaning products when you are planning to clean your bike.

Cleaning an electric bicycle

When you want to clean a pedelec, it is important that you first remove the battery. You can wipe this separately with a damp, not too wet cloth. This prevents water damage to the battery. Then you can clean the electric bike without the battery as described above with a little soap, a sponge and an old toothbrush.

Cleaning my road bike

If your road bike has become very dirty after a ride, we recommend rinsing it out with a garden hose as soon as possible. The dirt will not have caked on yet. This will be the case if you wait longer before rinsing your bike. Make sure that you do not use a high-pressure cleaner. When you have rinsed the road bike with the garden hose, you will have to wash it by hand. Use lukewarm water, a sponge and an old toothbrush for the spots you cannot reach. Then let the bike dry out well.

Cleaning the chain on your bike

When you want to clean your bicycle chain, start by removing dirt from the chain. You can do this by putting detergent on a cloth and/or an old toothbrush and then run it along the chain. Then take the degreaser to thoroughly clean your chain. Finally, dry your bike well.
